Amateur Hour in OLO

I still support Michael. But I no longer can maintain any support for the people around him. September was bad. October, amazingly, might turn out to actually be worse:

Ignatieff to talk tax hikes, cost-cutting to tame deficit

Ignatieff to talk tax hikes

Ignatieff Denies Talks on Raising Taxes

Conservatives extend poll lead over Liberals

Michael, c’mon man, get some new people around you. Let’s win this thing, not give Harper a majority on a silver-platter.

  1. I think that victory in the next election is not something the Liberals can credibly claim is a possibility. I think right now the Liberals need to avoid a worst-case-scenario of disappearing completely on the electoral landscape.

  2. The number one thing Ignatieff and the Liberals must do is step back from the brinkmanship of trying to force an election – it didn’t work and the more they continue down that road, the sillier they look. Number two, is to find a leader. Folks, there is a reason the system of nominations, elections, leadership races etc were developed and ingrained into the system – they work. Ignatieff was allowed to bypass all of them (and standing for election in the safest Liberal seat in the country does not qualify as running for election) and the results are showing. The man is smart, can write a book and can hold his own with the Harvard crowd. He is not a leader, he is not capable of making a decision and defending it and he is not prepared to define a vision of Canada that Canadians will sign on to. If he did not come into the job with a passion to accomplish his goals, why did he take the job? The PM’s chair is not the place to figure out who you are, what you stand for and what you want to do. Hold a leadership convention, allow him to return to Harvard and then you can start rebuilding the party. First impressions are powerful – Canadians have passed judgment on their first impressions of Ignatieff.
